This May over 130 million Americans will be entitled to a one-time payment due to the congressional passage of the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008. Many of our members have already received notification from the IRS outlining the payment guidelines for individuals, joint filers and individuals who normally do not have to file a tax return.
Here is an example of a Married household, filing jointly with two dependent children:
Joint return =$1,200
Child #1 = $300
Child #2 = $300
Total payment: $1,800
Each individual taxpayer situation is different. Please check with the IRS or accountant for details.

The intention of this bill was to send Americans shopping and “stimulate” the economy. We, at Water and Light Credit Union believe that this is a golden opportunity to save. In fact, we say “Stimulate” your savings rather than the local mall.
We suggest:
- Open a passbook savings account for emergencies
- Utilize half to pay down current debt
- Start a college fund
Being a saver and not a spender will have a much better return on your investment then a big screen TV or trendy new wardrobe.
Stop into your Water and Light Credit Union for special rates designed just for you and your family when you receive your Stimulus check this May.
